Getting crafty…
Posted on April 24th, 2009 5 commentsWell, I’m still on the couch (that’s 3 weeks now) and I think I’m all ‘movied’ out. My ankle is definitely getting better, but I’m very disappointed as I’m not quite ‘better enough’ to make it back to school next week. Sorry girls! I am missing you so much.
Anyway, this week I have thrown myself into crafty stuff. I can hardly believe it, but I have knitted 3 beautiful scarves for my friend’s little girls and now I’m making one for my mum for Mother’s Day. Mr Monstar thinks I am a total nanna very clever indeed! The wool is so soft and the scarves look gorgeous when they are all done. I meant to take a photo of the three I finished, but forgot and I’ve posted them off already. Here is the start of Mum’s and the wool I used for the other ones though so you can get an idea.
I’ve also been embroidering a panel for a cushion to give another friend’s baby boy. It looks really cute and thought it might be a nice thing for us to do when I get back. Thoughts?
On top of that, I’ve been making some greeting cards with some beautiful papers and ribbons, so I’ll be all stocked up for the year.
So that has been my week. I’m off to put a roast in the oven now, then I think I’ll settle in to read a book that Mum sent over from Adelaide. It’s by Stephanie Meyer, so you will all be very proud of me!
I hope you are all well,
Mrs Monstar

Couldn’t resist…
Posted on April 16th, 2009 6 commentsI couldn’t resist showing you this photo. Oscar had a rough night with a big thunder storm. After it had passed, he passed out! He looked so hilarious.

Fairy and Sparkle
Posted on April 13th, 2009 1 commentI hope that everyone had a lovely Easter. The Easter bunny came to us so I know we must have been good this year. Mr Monstar and I enjoyed a beautiful lunch at Watson’s Bay with friends to celebrate. It was great to get off the couch, although my leg was pretty sore when we returned home, so I have spent most of the day back watching movies and reading.
Anyway, I thought I’d update you on the adventures of Fairy and Sparkle; the hermit crabs. They seem to have ‘come to life’ since I put a heat lamp over them. We have heard them chirping, seen them eat strawberries and they have generally been enjoying a ‘hermyparty’ every night. However, slight disaster…….the lamp melted and so now, they are back to the cold. I have ordered a heat pad online to get them ready for winter, so hopefully they will be more comfortable.
I bought Fairy a new, pink shell, which she has been interested in, but she hasn’t moved into it yet. Sparkle is going through a moult (I think). She has burrowed down completely underground and apparently that’s a sign that she is about to moult and grow her new exoskeleton. Oscar is being very scientific about the whole process and really wants to eat meet them.
So there you go….all is well in the Monstar household. Humans, furry creatures and crustaceans all happy….

Getting better already…
Posted on April 10th, 2009 4 commentsFirstly, thank you for all of your lovely messages. It’s great to hear about what you have been doing since I have been away. In fact, I’m quite sure that your thoughts have helped me get better quicker as today is the first day I have been able to put some weight on my foot. Hooray! I’m definitely getting better at walking with my crutches too (which my husband has fixed up with teatowels and rubber bands so that they don’t hurt my hands so much). Very inventive!
I’ve spent the last few days watching some old movies that I’ve wanted to sit and watch again for ages; Must love Dogs, Devil Loves Prada, Dead Poets’ Society, The Notebook, Shawshank Redemption. I’ve been reading my book and a magazine that Mrs G bought for me. I even had a slice or six!! of Banana Bread that Mrs W made for me - very spoilt. It all sounds very relaxing, but in truth I would love to be able to get up and move around a little more. Sitting on the couch all day is beginning to get rather boring.
However, as you can see, the dogs are absolutely hating having me home and being allowed to lounge around all day…..
I’m so pleased to hear that your last week at school was a good one, although I can imagine how busy it was. I hope that some of you have some lovely things planned and I look forward to hearing about your adventures. Don’t eat too much chocolate. I know I have already pigged out been very controlled and had a little each day only. Hmmmmm…
I don’t know if you remember (my girls from last year) me telling you a story that I’d seen about a man who met his wife in a concentration camp when she threw apples over the fence to him……then they met again on a blind date and have been married for fifty years? Well, I just read this morning that it was all a lie and he’s now in some legal trouble! I’m so disappointed as it was such a lovely story. Oh well..
Anyway, I think I’ll get back to another movie; Pride and Prejudice perhaps. Might as well make the most of it while I can!
Have a lovely Easter everyone.

I’m home!
Posted on April 8th, 2009 15 commentsThis is my first post ever and I must admit, I am still trying to work this ‘blog’ thing out. I think it’s a good idea for me to try this at the same time as my students; then we can learn about it together and perhaps you can help me.
Well, I’m home from my ankle surgery and happy to report that everything went well. My ankle is in a very padded bandage and it’s rather sore, but it was a success. Now I’m just looking forward to being able to run around and feel more comfortable than I have in quite some time. Perhaps I’ll be able to keep up with you guys now!
My beautiful girls have been so thoughtful, sending me messages and giving me flowers and cards before I finished school last week. I am a very lucky lady and you can rest assured that I am thinking of you and hoping that you are having a good time at school without me.
My poochies are being very attentive ‘nurses’. Oscar has been snuggled up in my arms constantly since I arrived home and Maddie keeps sneaking up and licking me madly. It’s quite amazing the way that animals seem to know when something is wrong.
The hermit crabs are also OK - quiet, but OK. I have begun to worry whether they are cold as the internet tells me they hibernate when their environment is below 21 degrees. I have put a heat lamp over them, but now they don’t know what’s going on. It’s a bit of a dilemma given that they are nocturnal. Anyway, Fairy and Sparkle are just fine, if a little confused.
I’ll post again soon and try to get my blog looking like ‘me’. I hope that you are all well. I miss you all and think of you all the time. Hope to read some comments soon.
